Do Randburg and Fairland homes actually need a water filter?

Yes, for two reasons. Joburg's municipal water is technically safe but often arrives with chlorine taste, sediment from old pipes, and seasonal turbidity from Vaal Dam intake variation. Older Randburg, Northcliff and Fairland homes also have decades of internal pipework that can release iron, copper or scale into the line. A whole-house filter at the inlet handles sediment and chlorine; an under-sink filter at the kitchen tap upgrades drinking and cooking water further.

What's the difference between a whole-house filter and an under-sink system?

Whole-house (point-of-entry) sits at your mains connection and filters every drop entering the home: showers, baths, washing machine, kitchen, garden taps. Best for sediment, chlorine, and protecting geysers and appliances from scale. Under-sink (point-of-use) sits at the kitchen sink only and gives you premium drinking water with finer filtration (carbon block, sometimes RO membrane) at a much lower volume. Most well-set-up homes have both: whole-house for everything, under-sink for the drinking tap.

How often do filter cartridges need to be changed?

Sediment cartridges typically every 6 months. Carbon block cartridges every 6 to 12 months depending on your water and household size. Reverse osmosis membranes last 2 to 3 years if the pre-filters are kept fresh. We label the install with the date and recommended change schedule, and we run a maintenance plan where we come back, swap cartridges, and check pressure and flow. Skipping changes is the #1 cause of filtered water that tastes worse than unfiltered.

Can a filter system be combined with a JoJo tank or borehole?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and we do this regularly across Randburg and Northcliff. Borehole water especially needs filtration: sediment first, then iron and manganese removal if levels are high, then carbon for taste, often UV at the end for biological safety. Tank-stored municipal water gets a simpler treatment train (sediment + carbon) but UV is still worth fitting if the tank ever holds water for more than a few weeks. We design the train against a water test, not against a sales pitch.

How long does a water filter install take?

Under-sink: 1 to 2 hours. Whole-house: half a day, longer if we need to add a bypass line or move existing pipework to make space. We isolate the mains, fit the housing, plumb in the bypass valves (so you can change cartridges without losing water to the house), pressure-test, flush the system, and check the kitchen tap and a couple of other points. You're back online same day.
