A Fairland family had their borehole drilled and connected. The water looked perfectly clear, tasted fine. They used it for drinking, cooking, the kids' bath. Six months later, after recurring stomach issues, they had it tested.
The results came back with high E. coli and elevated nitrates. The borehole casing had a crack allowing surface water contamination — rainwater carrying bacteria and garden fertiliser was seeping directly into their water supply.
We arranged proper SANS 241 testing through a SANAS-accredited laboratory, identified the contamination source, and installed a UV steriliser and sediment filter. The family now tests annually as a matter of routine.
The point is straightforward: you cannot see, taste, or smell most waterborne contaminants. Clear water is not proof of safe water. The only way to know what is in your borehole water is to test it properly.
