LG Fridge Filters

LG Fridge Water Filters, Supplied and Fitted

Genuine and certified compatible filter cartridges for LG GSL side-by-side, GBB French Door and LFX American-style fridges. Supply only nationally, supply plus installation across Johannesburg and surrounds.

LT700P, LT1000P, LT800P & LT500P NSF-42 & NSF-53 Certified Johannesburg Install

LG sits alongside Samsung as the other big side-by-side fridge brand in South African kitchens, but the cartridge line-up is cleaner. Four internal cartridges cover almost every LG sold here since 2011, split by housing style rather than year. This page maps your model number to the right one and shows you what the install actually looks like. We stock them in Fairland and fit across the northern suburbs.

What an LG filter actually does

Every LG cartridge runs the same three-stage sequence inside the housing. Water enters the inlet, passes through a sediment pre-wrap that catches rust, grit and pipe particles, then moves through an activated carbon block that reduces chlorine taste, chlorine odour and most volatile organic compounds before the filtered water leaves the outlet and feeds the door dispenser and the automatic ice maker.

LG's current generation of LT700P and LT1000P cartridges carry NSF-42 and NSF-53 certification. NSF-53 is the meaningful one, it covers health-related contaminants like lead, cysts and some pharmaceutical traces. LT800P and the older LT500P are NSF-42 certified (taste and odour) only.

  • Chlorine and chlorine odour reduction through the activated carbon block
  • Sediment, rust and fine particles caught by the sediment pre-wrap
  • Cysts, lead and mercury reduction on the NSF-53 certified LT700P and LT1000P
  • VOCs and pharmaceutical traces on the current LG cartridge generation

What the LG Replace Filter light means

LG uses a simple three-state indicator rather than Samsung's colour-cycle timer. The Replace Filter light sits on the control panel, either off, lit, or flashing. Here is how to read each state.

Off

Fresh filter, keep dispensing

The Replace Filter light sits off for the first five to six months after a fresh install. Dispenser and ice maker flow at full rated rate. No action needed. Taste and odour stay neutral as long as the carbon block is within its rated capacity.

Solid on

Replace the cartridge

The indicator turns solid amber or red when the internal six month timer trips, roughly every 180 days of runtime. The cartridge still dispenses water, but the carbon block is at the end of its rated life. Order the replacement within the next week, not the next month.

Flashing

Overdue, reset not done

A flashing Replace Filter light means either the previous swap was done without resetting the timer, or the cartridge is weeks past due. Fit the replacement and hold the Filter button for three seconds. The light switches off and the timer restarts from day zero.

Where LG puts the filter housing

LG is consistent about cartridge placement within each series. On every modern GSL and GSI side-by-side, the LT700P sits in the top right corner of the main fridge compartment, recessed into a ceiling housing. You see the round end cap and a small reset button alongside it.

On GBB and GML French Door models, LG moved the LT1000P into the inside of the left door. A push-button housing holds the cartridge. The benefit is more usable shelf space. The trade-off is that dispensing stops briefly while the door is open.

LFX, LMX and LSC American-style fridges use a bigger LT800P housing, usually on the right ceiling of the main compartment. Legacy LSC and LRSC side-by-sides from pre-2011 tuck the LT500P into the same top-right position.

  • GSL / GSI side-by-side: ceiling corner, top right, main compartment
  • GBB / GML French Door: inside left door, push-button housing
  • LFX / LMX / LSC American: right ceiling, main compartment, larger housing
  • Legacy LSC / LRSC: top-right ceiling, main compartment
  • External inline: behind or under the fridge, tapped into the water feed

Genuine LG or certified compatible?

Both fit the housing, both carry certification, both deliver filtered water. The difference is the name on the box and the price. We quote both on every LG enquiry.

Genuine LG

LG branded OEM

The cartridge is made or licensed by LG and carries the original part number on the label. LT700P (ADQ36006101), LT1000P (ADQ74793501), LT800P (ADQ73613401), LT500P (5231JA2002A). Our default where the fridge is under manufacturer warranty, or where the customer wants the name on the box.

  • Guaranteed compliance with LG's original spec sheet
  • Maintains LG manufacturer warranty
  • Rated lifespan of 6 months / 760 litres
  • Premium price point, genuine packaging
Compatible

Reputable NSF-certified compatible

Manufactured by established filter companies to match LG's housing, flow rate, micron rating and NSF certification. We only stock compatibles with independent NSF-42 (or 42 plus 53) certification printed on the part number, not the cheapest listing on an import site.

  • Same physical fit, same flow rate
  • NSF-42 and often NSF-53 certified independently
  • Rated lifespan matches the LG OEM
  • 30 to 40 percent lower unit cost

Supplied and installed across the northern suburbs

We run LG replacements in Sandton, Bryanston, Fourways, Hyde Park, Morningside, Rosebank, Randburg, Fairland, Northcliff, Linden and Parkhurst. Same-week bookings are the default, and same-day visits happen when our route has capacity in the area.

The installation visit covers three things:

  • Shutting the water line down safely and swapping the cartridge without mess
  • Flushing the new filter for 10 to 15 litres until the water runs clear and the airlock clears
  • Resetting the LG Replace Filter indicator and confirming dispenser plus ice maker flow

If the LG is on a weeping saddle valve behind the fridge, or the plastic inlet line has kinked, we quote you on those issues honestly before we leave. A new cartridge is not a fix for a leaking coupling or a failed inlet solenoid.

In Sandton or one of the surrounding estates? See our suburb-specific LG fridge filter install page for Sandton with local access notes for Sandhurst, Morningside, Benmore Gardens, Hyde Park and the River Club corridor.

Why LG owners book us

LG sits second only to Samsung in the side-by-side fridges we fit across the northern suburbs. The van carries LT700P and LT1000P as standard stock, with LT800P and LT500P a quick drop-in from the Fairland base.

In-stock cartridges

LT700P and LT1000P on the van. Same-week installation is the default in Fairland and the surrounding suburbs.

Model matched, not guessed

We match by model prefix against a real installation database. No arriving with the wrong cartridge and leaving the kitchen without water.

Plumbers, not couriers

We spot the failing saddle valve, kinked inlet or collapsed coupling that a DIY swap cannot see. Fix it once properly.

LG fridge filter FAQ

The questions LG owners ask most often when they contact us for a replacement. If yours is not covered, the WhatsApp link in the closing block goes straight to the office.

The cartridge is decided by your fridge model, not the year. Modern GSL, GSI, GSP and GSX side-by-sides (from about 2016 onwards) use LT700P / ADQ36006101. Newer GBB and GML French Door models use LT1000P / ADQ74793501. Older LFX, LMX and LSC American-style fridges use LT800P / ADQ73613401. Pre-2011 LG side-by-sides use LT500P / 5231JA2002A. Send us the model number from the fridge compartment sticker and we confirm the exact cartridge.

Open the main fridge door and look on the upper left interior wall. LG prints a metallic silver label with the model number, serial number and capacity. South African LG models typically start with GSL, GSI, GBB, GML, LFX, LMX or LSC. If the label has lifted or faded, check inside the freezer compartment or behind the lower kick plate. Send a photo on WhatsApp and we read it for you.

LT700P (ADQ36006101) is LG's long-running twist-in cartridge for GSL and GSI side-by-side fridges built from around 2011. It sits in the top right ceiling housing of the main compartment. LT1000P (ADQ74793501) is the newer push-button cartridge for GBB French Door and GML Door-in-Door models. The housings are physically different, so LT700P and LT1000P do not cross-fit. Always match the cartridge to the model, not the brand.

No. LT800P / ADQ73613401 is a different form factor used in LG's American-style LFX, LMX and LSC French Door fridges from around 2013 to 2018. The housing geometry differs from LT700P. If your fridge is an LFX25, LMX28 or LSC27, LT800P is the correct cartridge. Using LT700P in that housing will not seal and will leak the moment the water supply is opened.

We supply both. Genuine LG OEM cartridges carry the original LG part number (ADQ36006101 for LT700P, ADQ74793501 for LT1000P, ADQ73613401 for LT800P, 5231JA2002A for LT500P) and are our default for fridges still under manufacturer warranty. Reputable NSF-certified compatibles match the housing, flow rate and micron rating at a lower unit cost. Both options appear in every quote and you choose based on warranty and budget.

Every six months is LG's standard recommendation. The LT700P and LT1000P are rated for around 200 gallons (roughly 750 to 760 litres) which translates to the six month window in typical household use. On Joburg municipal water with higher chlorine loads and seasonal sediment after rain events, some households cycle the filter every five months to keep the taste clean. Replace earlier if the taste turns or dispenser flow drops.

On most LG side-by-side and French Door models, hold the Filter button on the control panel for three to five seconds. On models without a dedicated Filter button, hold Water and Ice together, or Express Freeze for three seconds. The panel beeps and the Replace Filter indicator switches off. We reset the indicator on every install visit and note the next due date on an invoice sticker on the fridge.

LG cartridges are designed for homeowner replacement. LT700P twist-in takes about three minutes. LT1000P push-button takes about two. We supply with a printed instruction sheet if you prefer DIY. For external inline filters, first time installs where a saddle valve has to be fitted to the water line, or any install on a fridge where the existing coupling behind the unit is weeping, we recommend the service visit. A poorly fitted cartridge leaks into the kitchen cabinetry silently for weeks.

Three common causes. First, airlock, which clears after dispensing 10 to 15 litres (you will see sputtering, then clean flow). Second, the filter is not fully seated, which on LT700P means the locking tab has not clicked fully clockwise. Third, the dispenser lockout is engaged on the control panel and needs to be cleared. If none of those resolve it, the inlet solenoid valve at the back of the fridge may have failed and needs a plumber, not a filter.

Yes. We supply and fit across Sandton, Bryanston, Fourways, Hyde Park, Morningside, Rosebank, Randburg, Fairland, Northcliff, Linden, Parkhurst and the surrounding northern Johannesburg suburbs. A typical LG cartridge swap is a 20 to 30 minute visit including flushing the new filter and resetting the indicator. First time inline installs take longer because we tap the water line in properly and test for leaks before we leave.

The figure depends on which cartridge your fridge takes, whether you choose genuine LG OEM or a certified compatible, and whether it is a simple swap or a first time inline install. Use the finder to identify your exact part, then hit Get a Quote and we come back with a written figure for supply plus installation. No surprise fees and no upselling.
