How the install works

The LT700P is the easier of the LG cartridges to fit. The twist-in mechanism in the top right interior housing seats cleanly, the LG O-ring design tolerates a slightly imperfect alignment better than the newer LT1000P, and the indicator reset is a single-button hold. A confident homeowner can do it in three minutes.

The one check we do on LT700P installs that homeowners often miss is the housing O-ring itself. On fridges that have been running with a spent cartridge for a year or more, the O-ring can take a compression set and start weeping with the new cartridge in. We carry replacement LG O-rings in the van for exactly this scenario.

  • Shut off. Water feed off at the fridge supply line.
  • Twist out. Quarter turn anti-clockwise, cartridge drops clear.
  • O-ring check. Housing O-ring inspected, replaced if weeping.
  • Twist in. New cartridge, quarter turn clockwise until flush.
  • Flush + reset. Three litres through dispenser, filter button held five seconds.

The four-step install

Every LT700P visit follows the same sequence. The O-ring inspection is the LG-specific step that matters.

1

Confirm part

Model number in, LT700P / ADQ36006101 confirmed against housing.

2

Swap + O-ring

Supply off, old out, O-ring checked, new cartridge seated.

3

Flush three litres

Dispenser run until carbon fines clear and water tastes neutral.

4

Reset indicator

Filter button held five seconds until indicator resets to blue.

LG French Doors across Joburg

The GR-M257 and GR-X247 range is one of the most common French Door fridges in Sandton, Bryanston and Morningside kitchens. They earned their place because the dispenser delivers cleaner water than almost any competing brand when the filter is fresh. That advantage evaporates when the LT700P is left in for twelve or eighteen months instead of six.

  • GR-M257SGHV is the most common model we service, particularly in kitchens renovated between 2014 and 2017.
  • GR-D257SL side-by-sides are prevalent in slightly older homes in Linden, Northcliff and Fairland.
  • GR-X247 is the premium French Door, usually in newer builds and full renovations. Worth fitting genuine on these while under warranty.
  • All three models take the same LT700P, so the cartridge choice does not change with model.

Genuine LG or certified compatible?

LG fridges hold their value well and many GR-M257 and GR-X247 units are still inside the manufacturer warranty window. That changes the calculus slightly versus the Samsung cartridges.

Genuine LG

LT700P (OEM)

  • Original LG part number and box hologram
  • Default for GR-M257 and GR-X247 still under warranty
  • O-ring matches LG housing durometer exactly
  • Supply chain from authorised LG SA distributor
Certified compatible

Waterdrop / EcoAqua / Tier1

  • Matching NSF-42 and NSF-53 certification on packaging
  • Tooled to the same ADQ housing spec
  • Sensible choice for GR-D257 side-by-sides past warranty
  • We fit Waterdrop WD-LT700P where compatible is chosen

Frequently asked questions

The LT700P comes with its own set of questions because LG uses two different part-naming conventions and homeowners often find one on the fridge and the other in the manual.

The LT700P (ADQ36006101) fits LG French Door and side-by-side refrigerators in the GR-D257, GR-M257, GR-X247 and LRFXS range produced from around 2011 to 2019. It also fits Kenmore fridges that were rebadged LG units in that period. Send the full LG model number starting with GR or LF and we confirm.

Yes. LT700P is the LG marketing part name (LT stands for LG Total replacement, 700P is the generation number). ADQ36006101 is the LG internal part number. Both refer to the same twist-in cartridge. The older ADQ36006101-S suffix is the South African distribution variant, physically identical.

LG rates the LT700P at 757 litres (200 US gallons) or 6 months. The lower volume rating compared to the newer LT1000P reflects the older generation carbon bed. In Joburg municipal water, the 6-month time limit usually trips first. The indicator on the fridge panel counts down automatically and changes colour when the cartridge is due.

Yes. Genuine LG LT700P / ADQ36006101 cartridges carry NSF-42 (chlorine, taste and odour) and NSF-53 (lead, cysts) certification. The certification numbers are printed on the cartridge packaging. Certified compatibles should carry matching NSF numbers, not a generic NSF logo without a standard reference.

The LT700P (ADQ36006101) is the older generation cartridge for LG fridges from roughly 2011 to 2019. The LT1000P (ADQ747935) is the newer generation from 2019 onwards with tighter filtration (NSF-401 certification in addition to 42 and 53) and a higher 757-to-1514 litre capacity. The housings are different and the cartridges are not cross-compatible. Always match to the fridge year and model.

On most LG French Door models, press and hold the Water Filter button on the control panel for three to five seconds. The red indicator switches back to blue or clears entirely. On GR-D257 side-by-sides, the reset is a combination of the Filter and Light buttons held together. We reset the indicator as part of every install.

Yes for a straight replacement. The LT700P is a twist-in cartridge in the top right interior of the fridge. Turn the water feed off, quarter turn anti-clockwise, cartridge drops, new one twists in the same way. Flush for three minutes, reset the indicator. Takes about three minutes start to finish. We supply the cartridge with an instruction sheet if you prefer DIY.

Yes. LG French Door fridges are common in Sandton, Bryanston, Fourways, Morningside and Hyde Park kitchens. We service the LT700P and its housing range across the northern Johannesburg suburbs as part of the weekly fridge filter route. Typical cartridge swap is a 20 to 30 minute visit including flush and indicator reset.
