Fridges this cartridge fits

The LT1000P fits LG French Door fridges built from 2019 onwards. If your fridge is newer than 2019 and LG-branded, this is almost certainly your cartridge.

How the push-in install works

The LT1000P uses a completely different housing from the older LT700P. No twist, no turn. The cartridge slides into a cylindrical compartment behind a hinged lid in the top right of the fridge interior, and the click-stop lock engages when the cartridge is fully home.

The fiddly part is the hinged lid on a brand-new fridge. The detent on the LRFDS3016S in particular is stiff for the first handful of opens. Homeowners sometimes force the lid and crack the hinge. We warm the lid gently on new fridges and work the hinge in before attempting the cartridge swap.

  • Lid open. Gentle pull up on the compartment lid, hinge rotates back.
  • Release old. Press the grey release tab, old cartridge slides out.
  • Push in new. New cartridge slides in until the click-stop engages audibly.
  • Flush. Three to four litres through the dispenser to clear carbon fines.
  • Reset. Water Filter button held five seconds, panel confirms.

The four-step install

Every LT1000P visit follows the same sequence. The lid check is the LG-specific step on newer fridges.

1

Confirm part

Model number in, LT1000P / ADQ747935 confirmed against newer LG housing.

2

Lid + swap

Lid opened, hinge worked in if new, release tab pressed, push-in replacement.

3

Flush four litres

Longer flush on new cartridges because of the higher-grade carbon block.

4

Reset indicator

Water Filter button held five seconds, InstaView uses settings menu.

Why the NSF-401 certification matters

The third certification on the LT1000P is the one people do not understand at first. NSF-42 and NSF-53 cover the traditional contaminants of concern in municipal water: chlorine taste and odour, lead, cysts. NSF-401 covers the newer class of contaminants that have appeared in detectable concentrations in South African municipal supply over the last decade: select pharmaceutical residues (ibuprofen, carbamazepine) and select pesticide residues.

Whether that tier of filtration matters to a given household is a legitimate debate. For homes with small children, immunocompromised family members or people specifically concerned about endocrine disruptors, NSF-401 is the reason to pay the LT1000P premium. For a low-use household, the NSF-42 and NSF-53 of a certified compatible is sufficient.

  • NSF-42 = chlorine, taste, odour. Standard household concern.
  • NSF-53 = lead, cysts, select health contaminants. Important for older pipe networks.
  • NSF-401 = emerging contaminants. Pharmaceuticals, pesticides, endocrine disruptors.
  • Genuine LT1000P is the only fridge cartridge at this site carrying all three.

Genuine LG or certified compatible?

Of all the fridge cartridges we fit, the LT1000P is the one where we lean genuine most often. Two reasons: the housing tolerance, and the NSF-401 certification that compatibles do not replicate.

Genuine LG

LT1000P (OEM)

  • Carries NSF-42, NSF-53 and NSF-401 certification
  • Push-in tolerance matches housing click-stop exactly
  • Default for all newer LG French Doors (LRFDS, LRFXS)
  • Near-zero failure rate in our install history
Certified compatible

Waterdrop / EcoAqua

  • NSF-42 and NSF-53 certification only (no NSF-401)
  • Housing fit acceptable, occasional top-seal weeping reported
  • Worth considering on older LRFXS2503S models past warranty
  • Waterdrop WD-LT1000P is our preferred compatible when chosen

The full reasoning is in our plumber's view on genuine versus compatible fridge filters.

Frequently asked questions

The LT1000P is the newest generation cartridge and attracts the most detailed questions from homeowners who have researched the upgrade.

The LT1000P (ADQ747935) fits LG French Door refrigerators built from 2019 onwards, including the LRFDS2603S, LRFXS2503S, LRFDS3016S, LRFXS3108S, LFXS26973S and the post-2019 GR-X247 range. It does not fit pre-2019 LG fridges, which take the older LT700P.

Yes. LT1000P is the LG marketing part name, ADQ747935 is the LG internal part number. They refer to the same push-in cartridge. The ADQ74793504 suffix is a minor revision of the same part, physically identical.

LG rates the LT1000P at up to 1 514 litres (400 US gallons) or 6 months, whichever comes first. The higher volume rating compared to the older LT700P reflects the newer carbon block design. Most South African households still hit the 6-month time limit first because of normal daily use patterns.

Yes. The LT1000P is one of the few fridge cartridges on the market certified to all three relevant NSF standards: NSF-42 (chlorine, taste, odour), NSF-53 (lead, cysts) and NSF-401 (emerging contaminants including select pharmaceuticals and pesticides). This three-level certification is genuine LG only. Many compatibles claim NSF-401 without actually holding the certification, so verify the certification number on the packaging.

Push-in. This is the main housing difference from the older LT700P. The LT1000P slides into a cylindrical housing with a click-stop lock rather than twisting. The housing itself sits in the top right of the fridge interior, and the release lever is on the lid of the housing compartment.

The LT1000P is the one LG cartridge where we lean towards genuine more often than compatible. The reason is the push-in housing tolerance is tighter than the older twist-in housings, and we have seen a higher failure rate on cheaper compatibles (slow weep from the top seal) versus near-zero failure on genuine LG. If you choose compatible, stay with Waterdrop WD-LT1000P or EcoAqua EFF-1044A, both of which carry matching NSF-42 and NSF-53 certification.

On the LRFDS and LRFXS range, press and hold the Water Filter button on the control panel for five seconds. The display confirms the reset and the indicator switches back to blue or clears. On models with the InstaView touch panel, the reset is inside the settings menu under Filter Status. We reset the indicator as part of every install.

Yes for a straight replacement, though the push-in mechanism is slightly fiddlier than the older twist-in cartridges. Open the housing lid in the top right of the fridge interior, press the release tab, cartridge slides out. New cartridge slides in until the click-stop engages. Flush for three minutes, reset the indicator. We supply with an instruction sheet if you prefer DIY. For the LRFDS3016S in particular, the lid design is stiff when new and a plumber visit is often easier.
